It was really easy to make a list of the books that I didn’t finish this summer, but it took me much longer to lay out all of the music I’ve listened to instead of reading those books.
Here’s the stuff that’s been in heavy rotation this summer:
Federico Aubele, Amatoria
Sidney Bechet, The Fabulous Sidney Bechet
A.A. Bondy, American Hearts (thanks for that one, Friday Night Lights)
DOOM, Unexpected Guests
Flying Lotus, Los Angeles
Andy Horace, Pure Ranking
Madvillain, Madvillainy 2
Massive Attack, Heligoland
Lee “Scratch” Perry, Scratch Walking
Gil Scott-Heron, I’m New Here
Strong Arm Steady, In Search of Stoney Jackson
Sun Ra & His Astro-Infinity Arkestra, The Night Of The Purple Moon (There’s a great version of “Love in Outerspace” with a singer on the album but I couldn’t find it online.)
TV on the Radio, Return to Cookie Mountain
Sir Victor Uwaifo, Guitar Boy Superstar
Various, Nigeria Special: Modern Highlife, Afro-sounds & Nigerian Blues 1970-76
billy woods, Camouflage
There are some other albums I’ve gotten in the last couple of weeks that I wish I would have had earlier in the summer:
Arcade Fire, Suburbs (so far, I’m not really feeling this one)
The Budos Band, The Budos Band II
Gonja Sufi, A Sufi and A Killer
Fidel Nadal, Crucial Cuts
I’m sure I’m forgetting some things, so I’ll update this in a bit when I remember.
